So Cool You’re Freezing
Remember when I said only MX-5 owners can rival Porsche owners in their commitment to the culture surrounding their marques? Well I can now gladly say that I’ve seen (and been part of) it first hand. Who else takes a 2.5 hour highway drive at the crack of dawn on a winter’s morning – when the temperature reads single digits before the wind chill factor – with convertible tops down? You guessed it.
It is what is known as the Brass Monkey Run. What this brass monkey is, and who has it I don’t know, but it has apparently been a long-running annual tradition of “like-minded” enthusiasts driving from Sydney, across the Great Dividing Range and into Bathurst. Other such events also exist elsewhere. This year’s had in excess of 40 two-seater convertibles joining in on the experience, culminating at the top of Mount Panorama in a sight I’ve definitely not seen before, or thought I ever would. Until next year?
